Default Help! Locked out of my own store!

Not sure if this is related to the renaming my admin folder a couple weeks ago to make it more secure(I followed the directions I found here and yes I've logged in before today with the new directory name), but, I can not login in to my new admin now. My site still works. branderalarm.net To further confound me, when I tell it to resend my password and I enter my email address, it says it emailed me a new password - but it lies! I did this a few times with no luck. I can login to my cpanel and the hosting site tells my I can ask you all for help and use myPHPadmin to fix it but I am lost. I asked them to reload the site from 24 hours ago, from before I had them help me add a subdomain - just in case that screwed things up. I'll have to wait at least 2 hours to see if that fixes things, but in the mean time I'd like to know what this sounds like to you experts?
    Thanks,
    Doug

What error do you get when you try to log in?

    It says:
You entered the wrong username or password.
    resend password

I click on resend password and entered my admin email address and it says it sent me a new password. But it didn't.

I tried your link for the myPHPadmin but it fails:

    Error

    SQL query:

    DELETE FROM admin WHERE admin_name = 'Admin';

    MySQL said: Documentation
    #1146 - Table 'brande9_sope1.admin' doesn't exist

How does this work: If I try the wrong username and PW too many times, does it lock me out? When I click resend it does it wipe out the original?

You access phpMyAdmin either directly, or from a link called "MySQL Administration" or "phpMyAdmin" in your web hosting control panel.

Once in there take a look - has it got a table called 'admin'? If it doesn't then your database is screwed.

    Not at this time.

    Yes

It doesn't lie. It does send the new password. If you don't receive it then it's either gone into your junkmail/spam folder, or your email server dumped it for perhaps the same reason. You could try setting the minimum password length to something longer to try to avoid it being treated as spam. That has worked once or twice for people.

If the emails don't arrive for you, then you can use the FAQ article mentioned earlier to do the reset.

Thank you for these answers! Before I received them, I was able to get in, albiet briefly. Just long enough to delete the Admin username and admin PW. I tried and changed the email settings and have them working for "ask_a_question", but when I logged of and re-logged back in (only once successfully) and had a hard time - as it turns out the mozilla auto userID and password script was probably the culprit, I eventually clicked resend Password and my email settings failed to send it to me - I was hoping that it would use the same settings as the ask_a_question, which works, but nope! So, as I restore from backup another time and prepare to try to hack my way back in to my own cart, again, (jeeze), the question I now have is where are the proper email settings for the admin PW to have it "SUCCESSFULLY" send a new darn Password? I set up the configurations for all other email messages (new logins, customers, orders, etc) in the configuration screen and used smtp for type (not PHP wrapper) and mail.blahblah.com with my port setting on the line below. Again that works, but resend Password DOES NOT and I don't know why not?
Any idea why so if i screw it up again I can be bailed out more easily?

    You got in. Great! How?
What do you mean by "briefly"?
If you *got* in, then you should be "in". It doesn't just suddenly kick you out.

I restored from back up, tried a bunch of user ID and passwords, and hit on one. Got in and changed it to my normal one. added another normal one. logged out and back in. Worked on my email settings, so I could try to get a new one emailed to me if i got locked out again. Didn't work. Locked out again. Tried restore and all that again. No luck. My Mozilla password feature might/must have been the culprit. Have since turned it off in Mozilla. If resending password resets it, I seem to be really locked out this time. Tried the myPHPadmin reset query again, with no luck. I think I need someone to take a look.

I would think the phpMyadmin thing would have to work. Are you sure you're using Admin for the user name (note the capital A) and admin as the password?

Have you looked at those fields to see what's in them now?

I agree that the Firefox auto-complete 'feature' can be a major PITA in cases like this - turning it off is the first thing I do after installing FF.
