Exactly.
When it's working correctly, you'll see something that gives actual values, not zeros. Here's an example of the expected response from curltest when pointed at PayPal:

Thanks again. I'll what I can occomplish with their "tech support." Otherwise, the client does have another domain hosted by godadday. I understand they're more friendly toward zen cart users.

Alrighty...just got off the phone with Earthlink and was told in no uncertain terms that they don't support libcurl. I'm open to suggestions.

Zen Cart uses the PHP internal CURL function calls. It does not use the way-less-secure approach of shelling out to a command prompt via exec() and running a curl app to do its communications.
As such, it uses libcurl.

If they don't support libcurl, they probably do that because they're scared that CURL opens some sort of security risk and they just plug their ears and mutter "i'm scared, I'm scared" and hope you'll go away.
In my observation, any host who refuses to use libcurl clearly doesn't understand how to properly secure their servers.

If you're going to use CURL, you'll need to find a more capable hosting company.



but if you choose godaddy, be prepared for server performance problems. They're great for buying domain names, but everything else they do is a cash-grab and not worth wasting money on, in my experience.

Thanks for the input. This is going to be a very small store...maybe 50-100 items that will be managed manually by the client. Just a way to sell excess inventory or open box samples so I'm not all that worried about performance.

All that said, as I move forward with this I'd like to start collecting recommendations on hosting companies so, who do you recommend for this type of thing?

Zen Cart Certified Hosts - take your choice, dependent upon where you are located in the world. For a US based site you want a US based host, and for a UK based site you want a UK based host.

I am getting this error as well. Is this really normal?

My main concern is, I don't know what's causing my paypal checkout errors. In my debug logs in the cache folder I am getting arrays in my Paypal_Action_EC*.log files for ALL categories, ALL subcats, and ALL products.

Basically it spits out everything one would expect, such as the cart total, contents, etc., and then goes into the "category_tree" array. The below is a snippet of this, showing the start, then I cut out a large section and show the tail end of log. This is creating 47,398 lines total in the log...

FWIW, I gave up futzing around with this. It wasn't worth the time.

I had the client move it to Go Daddy and while they offer no support, the do handle the installation of Zen Cart for you. Takes a few minutes and you're up an running.
