Zen Cart installation is not the problem here, it's very likely my own, from additional mod installs. That said.. If your client hired you to install zen cart, and you couldn't handle it, why did you take the job. Seems like customer could have clicked the fantastico button themselves?

Gee, didn't mean to bother you with that.

The problem was with the host and their lack of support for just about anything. They fully admitted that for this I'd need to move it to another host or pay for their own shopping cart solutions. For 50-100 open box items and samples, the client wanted something fast and cheap. After clicking the button, they still would have been lost.

I got it installed and did the mods myself in very little time. Showed them how to add items and we were done. They're happy and that's what matters.

The information coming back from PayPal using curltest.php proves that you've got a working connection to talk to the PayPal servers. The reason it says "Invalid" is because the test doesn't use any real username/password to attempt communication. It simply sends a fake request to see whether communication is working. If you get anything back as an error message, it means things are open.

I'm not clear about what exactly you think the problem is.

I had the client move it to Go Daddy and while they offer no support, the do handle the installation of Zen Cart for you. Takes a few minutes and you're up an running.
Be sure to tell the client that GoDaddy hosting is crap and they should expect their server's performance to take a nose-dive in the next 3-6 months when it gets overcrowded and unable to deliver the speed or reliability they think they've paid for.

The problem is all of the product, category and catalog data being passed and returned from paypal. Why would 45,000 lines of text and all of my products categories/products need to be transmitted?

Better yet, any idea of what might be causing it?

That doesn't happen with a clean out-of-the-box fresh install of Zen Cart.

It doesn't. Only the items in the customer's cart are submitted.

No, but you could certainly start looking where I would: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.p...Obscure_Issues

I'm not sure why you hijacked a different unrelated thread about CURL errors during installation to start your discussion about confusing data in debug logs though.

    Dr. Byte,

Well... I am very sorry. While it may not have pertained to "new install", I didn't know whether it was a CURL error or not. I have no clue what I'm looking for here. Why this post? Because after searching the forum for HOURS, I saw your post on this thread, which I referenced earlier:
In post #11 on this thread, you show an example of the curltest.php results. At the end of the example it shows:
    Quote:

I am getting this error as well. Is this really normal?
So, seeing as how I was getting the same error, I thought the two problems were related. I guess they aren't, my apologies. I was simply seeking some help, next time I will try a little harder to find the appropriate thread or post a new one.

It's funny, I was trying my damnedest to keep from being chastised for asking a question answered in another thread, only to get told I'm hijacking a thread.

The PayPal debug logs are not necessarily only showing data that comes back from PayPal. They're capturing the state of information as at the time certain stages of processing are happening.
In your case the "extra" information is coming from session variables set on your site by addons such as simple_categories_tree which fills up your site's memory with thousands of extra data components for whatever reason.
To stop that information from showing in your PayPal debug logs, you'll have to either remove that addon or turn off the PayPal debug logging.
There may be other addons involved too.

DrByte, I'm adding this to the thread as it may have something to do with other's problem, given the hosting company says curl is working.

In my case curl should be working, and I think it could have something to do with the CURL test page on your server. Does it block certain IPs?

I'm checking wget http://www.zen-cart.com/testcurl.php on two servers, one works, the other times out (which happens to be the one I'm installing zc on!).
