Default Cart functionality that allows 0 pricing/estimate requests?

Hello everyone. I am trying to find out if there is a zen cart module that will allow me to put items into a "cart" where the items don't have a price.

Basically I am trying to create an "estimate" shopping cart. Users put multiple items into the "cart" (and obviously don't have to pay anything), and the "order" comes in so my client can create an estimate on his side from the items requested. The prices don't appear on the web site because they fluctuate so much...

    Thanks for your help.

I have seen similar questions before - unfortunately left unanswered.

What could be used as a work around is - setting the price to 0 and hiding it from the products page. Thus the price upon checkout will be 0 and the store owner will be able to contact the customer with the estimated price for the chosen products.

I'm working on something similar right now. So far, it's involved turning off all of the pricing stuff you can in admin, and turning off the display of a lot of what's left in the stylesheet. So far I've only had to edit 3 or 4 template files. I did this once before, and I remember the emails being the hard part. I'll keep you posted.

Looking for the same thing -- well, similar. First and foremost, there will be no online purchasing; it's all on-site (I already figured that part out).

I'd like the ability for non-registered users to be able to create an estimate (or quote) and then the staff can contact the user with a total.

Users who register will have to be approved by staff in order to make a "purchase order"; they can see the pricing and all they need to do is submit an order.

    Any ideas?

Not sure what you mean. You don't want to let non-registered visitors to see prices, but they can send an 'order' (list of desired products) so that you can get back to them with a quote and you want registered customers to see pricing and place an order in the usual manner (shipping, payment, etc.) ?

@stevesh > Get out of my head. :)

I've already got a chunk of this working and I've probably been more brutal than need be as I'm not 100% familiar with the ZenCart system. It took me a while to figure out bypassing the store and user authorization settings (rather, setting it all to "anyone can shop" and then re-implementing the checks to other criteria). I've been doing a lot of damage to core files, removing pieces, rewriting statements... I have a ways to go before I'll be happy with it but anything you can contribute idea-wise would certainly help speed me up.

Be sure to check out the "Request For Quote" payment and shipping modules.

@hey_you > Awesome, thanks for the link - I did search through the modules for anything "quote" related, must have missed that one because it's "RFQ". I have already added knuckle's Purchase Order module, but this may work better! I'll give it a whirl.

Well, the RFQ module didn't help much towards the goal ... it really does two things: adds a "request quote" option to the shipping page and a "request quote" option to the payment page, but as that page would typically show the prices anyhow -- it doesn't make much sense.

Another thread has some stuff I'm trying to do, including changing the user authorization so a newly registered user can still submit an "order" (for quote) but not see prices.

Believe me, I've considered writing this whole thing from scratch with a two-tier system, one for browsing-for-quote and a second with a login to submit an order... but somehow this all seemed easier with ZC.

Hopefully someone with a bit more ZC experience may be able to shed some light on my peanutbuttery situation!
