Default Selecting categories for specific sections

    Hi all,

I have been looking around for answers but have been unssuccesful so far.

I have created two new sections in the header of my new shop: these are "Womenswear" and "Menswear".
    http://www.kukistudio.com/index.php?main_page=index

I would like each of these sections to only contain specific categories of product. So for example clicking on "Womenswear" would only display the following items in the right hand category menu:
    >Adjustable Strap Shoes
    >Athletic Shoes
    >Boots
And "menswear" would only show the following items in the right hand category menu:
    >Casual Shoes
    >Comfort Shoes

More importantly as you navigate through the right hand menu and the associated products within each category, the menu should remain as it is pertaining to which section you are in.

Is this at all possible? Do I need to override certain files?

Let me know if I am not making sense?

    Cheers
    Costas

    1. Create a category called Womenswear
    2. Under Womenswear, create categories for
    >Adjustable Strap Shoes
    >Athletic Shoes
    >Boots
    3. Create products in the new subcategories (the categories created in step 2)
    4. Repeat process for Menswear

Look at the Holzheimer site in my sig. The owner sells photos and collectables. There are categories for Actors, Actresses, Television, Movies, etc. It's the same basic concept.

Assuming there is no easy way of achieving this... should I call the products_all template from the two new sections in the header and pass through a new parameter (ie section_type=womenswear) see below.

    index.php?main_page=products_all&section_type=womenswear

I could then retrived this parameter and in turn have control of the selection of categories and products in each section. This would in turn give me control over the categories displayed in my side menu and well as the categories of products shown within each of the two section.

This is assuming there is no easy way of achieving what I want? Does this soundthe most sensible?

If so, where in the code would be best to control the selection of categories and products in each section based on the retrieved parameter.

    Cheers

Why are you making this so complicated? You need 2 main categories: Womenswear and Menswear. Under those, you create any subcategories you want to associate with those categories and add your products to the subcategories.

    Hi afo,

I wrote the above reply before I saw your reply!

I have already created the category breakdown in the admin section. However I want to ensure that when you click "womenswear" in the header, only the following categories appear in the right hand category nav:
    >Adjustable Strap Shoes
    >Athletic Shoes
    >Boots

And then likewise, clicking on "menswear"in the header will only show its associated categories in the side nav.

Is there a custom url link I should use in the header title to only retrieve the associated categories?

No, just move the categories you mention to be inside either Womenswear or Menswear in admin > Catalog > Categories/Products.
That will do what you want automatically.
