Header image not showing and styling issues

Hi Bought the book and not finding much detail on customising the look of the shop. Have stored my header image in the correct folder (zencart>includes>templates>CUSTOM>images>header_bg.jpg and altered the logo wrapper div in stylesheet.css but image is not showing up. I put a black background in the logo div and that does show up. Have taken the background out but still no image.

I am testing locally on my computer so am unable to provide link but am able to provide screenshots if needed. I am working with windows 7 on zencart v1.3.8a.

Also have done a fair bit of searching to find out how to style the products page. I have the 3 folders in my zencart>images (besides all the default images) and they are small medium and large with their appropriately optimised, sized and named _MED.jp and _LRG.jpeg images in them.

I changed one image in the large and medium folders and left the original image as it was in the small folder to do some testing and although the image displays at 240x240 in the products page (IE _MED.jpg) when click on a larger image is activated it shows me the unaltered image in the small folder. How do I get it to use the _LRG.jpg in the large folder?

I would also like to know how to display more than one product across the page ie not stacked on top of each other but say 3 across the page. Does it have something to do with display inline somewhere in the stylesheets.css.

Sorry for all the questions but I have done some searching and cant find the answers elsewhere. Thanks for your time in advance.

Let's work on the header background image problem first.

Have you read this tutorial on How do I change the Header image?

The thing to note is to make sure that you have changed the CSS of the custom template instead of the classic template as well. Also make sure you have switched to the custom template in your admin.

For the rest of the questions, its a bit hard to visualize if you do not have a site with which to take a peek. Maybe provide some screen shots to give an idea.

Hi thanks for your reply. I have read that article and a hundred like it, i have purchased the book, I have scoured the forums, and I feel like crying as i seem to be going around in circles .. but i am not a big girls blouse and so i will soldier on.

As I had initially played with the stylesheet.css in my includes>templates>CUSTOM I went back to the templates folder into classic>css and copied the original stylesheet back to my CUSTOM folder. I then followed the procedure as outllined in the article you quoted and still nothing. CUSTOM template is default.

Attaching screenshots. I feel that it may be in the admin side of things. ZencartHome1 is a screenshot of the top half of my screen and ZencartHome2 .. the bottom. ImagesAdmin is a screenshot of yes, the admin area and finally the stylesheet screenshot.

It seems like your template is not loaded properly.

Switch back to the Classic template via the Tools > Template Selection screen. Make sure the Template Directory column shows "classic" after the switch is completed.

After that, go to the Tools > Layout Boxes Controller screen and click the "reset" button to ensure that all layout boxes are displayed.

Now, go to your store to check that the original header_bg.jpg that comes with a default Zen Cart store is displayed.

If everything is good after performing the above steps, re-read pg 270 - 275 on how to create a custom directory and switch over to the custom template (e.g. 'magic'). Re-set the layout boxes if required.

Now place your custom banner image (e.g. my_header_bg.jpg) into the custom template's images directory (e.g. /include/templates/magic/images) and modify the css file (e.g. /include/templates/magic/css/stylesheet.css) to point to the new header image. See if everything works this time.

Glad you've got it working. I was in your shoes once so I'm sure you'll be in a position to help some one else one day too .

Btw, if you are still having problems with the other issues, create new threads for each of them so others can help. Alternatively, do a search in the forums or look at the Tutorials/FAQs section to see whether a solution already exist.
