I'm a new Zen Cart user and I'm very impressed with the level of customisation and functionality that is available out of the box. I'm using the latest release on a fresh install on a unix server.

The store sells hand made jewellery and as a result many of the items are bespoke, so stock set to 1. The stock controlling available through the Zen Cart databases is perfect for supporting this level of sales.

I want to offer some items for sale singly and in a set, but need to ensure that the products are linked together in such a way that if someone buys the set, each of the individual items are removed from stock, or if a single item is bought, the set is removed from stock.

As an example: the store has 2 colours of necklace, bracelet and earrings. These are sold individually and as a set. So original stock looks like this:

1xBlue Necklace
1xBlue Bracelet
1xBlue Earrings
1xBlue Set (comprising the 3 above)
1xRed Necklace
1xRed Bracelet
1xRed Earrings
1xRed Set (comprising the 3 above)

A customer then purchases the Blue Set and Red Earrings. Stock should now look like this:

0xBlue Necklace
0xBlue Bracelet
0xBlue Earrings
0xBlue Set (comprising the 3 above)
1xRed Necklace
1xRed Bracelet
0xRed Earrings
0xRed Set (comprising the 3 above)

NB the red highlighted stock numbers must somehow be magically linked to the purchases.

As an advanced problem, there may be times when availability of components means that there will be (for instance) 3-off of the Blue Earrings, such that purchasing the Blue Set will just reduce the stock of Blue Earrings to 2.

Is this at all possible within the Zen Cart structure? I'm not averse to some PHP hacking or the like if necessary. Any thoughts or comments greatly appreciated.
