Help Please! Does anybody know a way to remove or disable the navigation tabs on the top of the page?

Do you mean the category tabs?
Admin> Configuration> Layout Settings> Categories-Tabs Menu ON/OFF

Those tabs are not standard zencart tabs... Contact the person who sold you the template and ask them
