Saving visitor carts

I have a question regarding visitor carts. Is there a configuration setting to maintain visitor carts after closing the browser window? I have tried on several hosting platforms, and with various session configurations, but no matter what, the visitor carts always seem to get deleted after the browser window is closed. Member carts are preserved, but not for non-logged in customers.

I am totally fine with modifying php.ini settings, too, if necessary (or even hacking the session handler). Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

There isn't a setting you can tweak but you can use my Keep Cart mod...
