Default Show only sub-categories when viewing top-categories

    Hi there,

I have searched for many days, but can't seem to find the solution to my problem.

Is there a way to only display sub-categories when viewing top categories?

For example, if I have the following categories:

    Fruits
    Apples
    Bananas
    Pears
    Peaches
    Oranges
    Grapes

    Snacks
    Chips
    Biscuits
    Donuts
    Bread
    Ants

And the categories will be displayed as the following on the frontpage:

    Fruits
    Snacks

And I if clicked on Snacks on the front page, only the selected category and it's siblings will be displayed:

    Snacks
    Chips
    Biscuits
    Donuts
    Bread
    Ants

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thankssss

By default this is your display that you should be seeing when a top cat is selected

    Fruits
    Snacks

    Chips
    Biscuits
    Donuts
    Bread
    Ants

If you have to ask this question, you either haven't installed and played with Zen Cart yet, or you have some third-party template that makes a non-standard display. In that case, a link to see your site will let us give useful advice.

I think what he wants is for the other top categories to disappear when one is selected, leaving only the selected category and its subcategories displayed in the Categories box.

I don't know how to do that, (though it can't be done with a stock cart), and it doesn't make sense to me to require customers to click back to the main page to see all categories.

It can be done using Categories Dressing, and when combined with the cat-tabs bar it can actually make sense.

Yes, stevesh is correct. I wanted to create a more user-friendly category browsing system (as with a large number of top level, and sub-categories, it can get quite overwhelming).

Thanks gjh42, your addon worked nicely.

And thanks to all you other people for helping as well :)
