Default Customer paid via 2 payment modes (Is this possible?)

    Hi

I really hope that some one can shed some light on this one.

We use PayPal Express, and yesterday started accepting CC Payments via a 3rd Party Payment Gateway (MiGS) thru our bank.

We had an order today, and received the acknowledgment email that order #xyz was paid by PayPal; and also the confirmation email from PayPal advising us of the customer's payment. - so that was ok.

Later today, I checked our (Bank) Merchant account and there was as an entry which was exactly the same amount as the PayPal transaction from order#xzy.

The amount (being something like $87.67) can not be confused with other transactions (at that stage there was only one other around $48) and the 'time stamp' was about 6minutes prior to the order/PayPal confirmation 'time stamp'.

So the question is - is this possible? and IF the 1st payment option had returned with an error message for the customer, and the customer returned to pay via PayPal, why was the amount captured by the bank?

It is evening here now, so I will call MasterCard first thing in the morning and then contact the customer, but I wanted to run this scenario past all of you Zen Cart gurus out there to see if anyone has any ideas?

    Many thanks

    Hello again

Still trying to work our how this could have happened; will be calling MasterCard in a couple of hours (when they open) - does anyone have any insights as to 'how' this could have occured?
(one shopping cart: 2 payments; one email notification)

I'd really appreciate some feedback - especially before I contact the MC & the customer

I would have said that was impossible. The only thing I can think of is that, as you suggested, the customer paid by CC and didn't realize that the payment had gone through, so he used Paypal.

In your testing, did you get a confirmation from MiGS, and did the success page seem confiusing or was it slow to load ?

Do you get emails from MiGS when someone uses them to pay?

    Hi stevesh

    Thanks sooo much for replying

In reply to your questions, during testing, after redirect to 3rd party payment page, and financial details are inputted, a 'success' page displayed, then a redirect back to (my) site. The 'success page' seemed quite 'logical' and 'clear' and redirection was prompt.

No confirmation email received from MiGS (I can only see payment by logging into my Merchant acct)

So this could happen IF the customer (in theory) added her cc details, and then (for some reason) opted out (after payment captured) and 'started again' and paid via PP?

I just wanted to confirm that there is no way that the 2 modules could in anyway possible somehow cause this? It is impossible, isn't it?

Sorry - not much sleep; we've only just started using this Gateway Payment module, and my head is just spinning (not to mention, it's my birthday today) Really appreciate your help - just want to clear on all of this prior to contacting the customer

Most people won't try a second payment option if the first doesn't work, so if that's what happened, I doubt if you'll see much of it.

Every payment processor I've worked with had an option to send the store owner an email upon successful transactions. I'm surprised MiGS doesn't.

    (And today is my birthday.)

    Hi again stevesh

    (gotta love those birthdays !!)

Just to follow up - I contacted the customer - and she said that she chose the p'ment gateway, and through the process, her computer 'froze' - she then seemed quite 'unsure' whether she received an error message, so went back and tried PayPal.

It was just a bit disconcerting because it was the very first order we received by this mode - thus the dire panic.

Thanks for the info about the email-follow up : I'll look into that. The Module configuration screen has this option:

    Optional Notification Email Address
You may optionally specify an email address to have payment error reported to such as Tampering Of Response and No Secure Hash Present notifications. By default if this is left empty the Site Admin will be notified

....but I took that as meaning that you get an email in case of error.

(Perhaps any other MiGS module users could share their process experience?)

But many thanks for your help Have a great day
