thumbnails issue..

Im new to using zen cart and was setting it up for a client for a auto site

when i upload the picture for the product, the thumbnail is a scaled version of the picture and not resized

example:
tirepic.jpg is 600x500 and 300kb

thumbmail made is 150x75 and is still 300kb since its just scaled and not resized

if it was resized it would be about 20kb

is it anyway to have zencart resize and keep the bigger picture when the product is clicked on?

having is scaled kills loading time and triples bandwidth... but im more concerned with loading time

There's a mod (see Free Software Addons above) called Image Handler 2 that I believe has the capability that you're looking for. Another thing to consider is to optimize those big images (300KB is going to take a loooong time for some customers); take a peek at http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/imageoptimizer/.
