I have the banner_box.php turned on to appear on the left side, which shows a number of banners. The heading of this box is "Sponsors", how do I change the header name?

Try "includes/languages/English.php or if you have a custom template, it should be "includes/languages/YOUR_CUSTOM_TEMPLATE/English.php
You can change ANY box heading there.Teach them to shop and they will shop today;
Teach them to Zen and they will OWN a shop tomorrow!
