trying to customise home page with tpl_index_default.php

i want to customise the home page, i have tried to add changes to tpl_index_default.php but nothing changes, i have restored the default main_template_vars.php and trawlled through the forum posts but cant figure out why nothing is working. why would this not work?

i am wanting to add a custom image and text, below that a product slideshow.. i havent tryed to add them yet i have only tryed to add text to the tpl_index_default.php page to see if it cchnages the home page

i am also wanting to customise the page that shows the list of products after you click on the category name in the menu, what page would that be? (i have customised the single product page, that was easy) thanks in advance

I'm seeing 'test cahnges' on your main page.

Again, it may depend on what changes you want to make, but start with tpl_modules_product_listing.php

okay, how about i rephrase my question, if i want to customise the home page, add an image, text and flash imagery, where and how would i do that?

In the define pages editor define_main_page.php

admin >>> tools >>> define pages editor...

okay, i will try and do it that way... but i also need to get rid of the hr line on the top of the front page..its from the breadcrumb or welcome message which i dont want but the line wont go away
