    Default Data Base errors: DB_ERROR_NOT_CONNECTED

    Zen Cart Version 1.3.8a
    Host Server: Dot5 Hosting
    URL: http://www.scor-pal.com/magnolia/store2/

I am experiencing high volumes on my store site (up to 40 customers on-line at a time) and it is regularly going down, both on the front end (customer) and the back end (admin). In the admin side I have been getting the following error message:
    DB_ERROR_NOT_CONNECTED

I am assuming it is due to traffic overload. The site also slows way down with admin pages taking up to 60 secs to load as I process orders and print invoices.

I have added additional 'usernames' to MYSQL data base (i now have 25) but the problem persists. Do the new 'usernames' automatically get used or do I have to changed the configure.php file somehow?

    Any ideas? Roy

    Hi,

The additional MySQL users will not get used without some extra coding. There is a post here...
    http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...28&postcount=2
    ...which details what to do.

However, unless you are explicitly getting "db user exceeded" type error messages I don't think additional mysql users will help.

It may be that your current website host does not have their mysql server set up to cope with your site, they may have oversold it and be placing too much load on it.

The first thing to do is to switch on the Page Parse time display in the admin. Go to the configuration menu select Logging and set "Display The Page Parse Time" to True. This will display the page parse time and number of SQL queries at the bottom of each page. This will help us to determine if there are any optimisations that can be made to reduce your site's database load.

    Regards,
    Christian.

    Thanks for the information.

I have turned on the Page Parse time option and it is working. The situation does not happen all the time, but regularly. The Page Parse Times do not show in the Admin section (do they?) This is where it effects me the most. Proceesing orders when I'm switching between the main order list and the individual customer edit order pages.

I have sent an inquiry to my Host Server but they always check the site when it's no happening and give me a stock answer like it is an application issue, not the server.

Correction: I see the Page Parse Times are now showing on the admin pages. Still need to speed up loading times when site is busy.
I have GZip Compression on and images are all small. However, the store does have close to 500 products.

The number of database queries being executed does not seem excessive, at least for a Zen Cart site. Most of the time the query time is less than a second but sometimes it is going to 17 seconds or more and once it went to over 120 seconds. This would suggest to me that the problem lies with the database server not your site.

Right now your site is down with a database connection problem error.

If you have raised the issue with your host and they are not helpful then change host. There is a list of certified Zen Cart hosts here...
