Default The Header - Changing it

I'm trying to follow these instructions for changing the header in my zen-cart

    https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=124

And, it makes no sense. It says to save it somewhere specific, but I have no idea how to get there.

Is this the simplest way to do this?

Save your custom header in the appropriate folder for your custom template: includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/images/logo.gif (where YOUR_TEMPLATE represents the name of your custom template).

The override system is basic to Zen Cart. It take a while to get your head around it, but it's worthwhile. As a rule of thumb, whereever you see a classic folder, you can create a folder for your custom template.

If you haven't done it already, unzip a copy of Zen Cart on your local computer. It will give you an idea of how the folders and files are organized and will make the tutorials/FAQ clearer to you.

I haven't even figured out how to install the template. I keep seeing the instruction to save things to and includes/...... etc, where in the world is that file? Is in the the ADMIN for my Zencart, or on my computer? How do I save to it?

Are there free videos that show how to do these things. Perhaps, as a visual person, I need someone to show me.

There are 2 includes folders in Zen Cart. One is in the admin and one is outside the admin. If you're installing a template, it goes in the one outside the admin.

How are you trying to install the template? Did you upload it using an FTP client?

I haven't even tried yet because I couldn't figure out the instructions. FTP? Do I need to call my web provider for them to walk me through that part? Will they know where this outside folder is?

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It allows you to transfer files between your local computer and your website. The only information you'll need from your hosting service is the ftp address (which is generally somthing like ftp.yourdomain.com) and the port to use. You can download Filezilla free on the net.

The FTP client will display two windows side by side. One will be the files/folders on your local computer. The other will be your website. You'll be able to transfer files back and forth between them.

BOTH includes folders are inside your Zen Cart installation. One is in the admin. The other isn't. The template goes in the one that isn't in the admin.

There is some good videos on youtube showing how to use filezilla. My host ( hostgator ) also has some real good videos on ftp.

This is how I done it, first you will need to download filezilla. Next download the template you want to your computer. Then open filezilla . Everything on the left side of the screen is the stuff on your computer and everything on the right side of the page is what is online. Find the template ( looking on the left side of the filezilla page ) you downloaded and open it until you see the folder "includes" . Then I pointed my mouse at the includes file and clicked it, hold the mouse button and drag the includes folder over to the right side of the page and drop it in the folder that said "www"

Then go to your admin and click tools>template selector and you will see it.

Be careful dragging files, if you release the mouse at the wrong time it might take a while to find the file again.

Thank you. All my research online is always referring to this includes folder for a number of things. You say it's not in the admin, it's outside of admin. Where outside of it? Would my hosting company know? (Bluehost doesn't offer support, though, for zencart) How do I find this folder that is outside of admin? Where in the world would it be kept?

    Thank you

    from my other post -

Find the template ( looking on the left side of the filezilla page ) you downloaded and open it until you see the folder "includes"

Like I said , youtube has a few good videos showing how filezilla works.

Do a google search for filezilla, you can download it for free.

The thing is that I haven't found a temlate colors that I like, so I'd rather just customize the it from the beginning myself. Everything I look up always refers to the Includes. So, with the free template out of the picture, where do I find this includes file outside of the admin?
