How can i Minimise expand side box?

Hi,
plz help, i need to have a feature on my site where a visitor can expand and minimise side boxes. I have seen this feature on few templates, i do not want to get the whole template juts this feature, how do i go about it?

You download the template you seen this on and study how they did it and apply all the changes to your template.

You will not get a simple "How to" answer for such a thing. Unless someone has done it recently and can volunteer all the steps.
