    Default Shipping calculation question(s).

    Good Morning everyone...

OK, here I am, probably trying to over-analyze things again, while setting up my shipping charges(v1.3.8a)....

I see in admin/config/shipping and packaging/package tare(small and large) the options for percentage of sale plus a number of pounds. The large package default is 10:1 for example(10% of item cost plus 1 pound)....

Here's the confusion I am having... Some items I will be selling may cost $500.00 and only weigh 10 pounds, other items may cost $15.00 and weigh 50 pounds. Is there a way to calculate shipping based on weight only, not percentage of sale(I am shipping UPS by the way)? This would be a more accurate way of estimating shipping for the customer.

Also, some items shipped will have an associated hazmat fee assessed(aerosols, fire extinguishers, etc...), how do I have that calculated or added in?

I am going to have another cup of coffee now, refresh both of my brain cells and dig into this again! Any insight would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

You can turn off or adjust the Tare to what ever works for you ...

To turn it off, just set the Tare to 0:0 ...

Then you could use the Table Rate and calculate shipping by weight.

For the second, you could probably adapt this:

    Great information! Thanks...

One question tho Stevesh about the installation of the sql patch. Not being familiar with this, do I just ftp the files and it auto installs when I launch the admin or should I launch the install file from the appropriate directory?

Not sure what you mean by 'the SQL patch'. There doesn't appear to be one in that mod.

The Envoronmental Handling Fee module you referenced also requires the 'Auction Site Attributes' module which is listed as no longer supported and to use the 'Product Fields' module instead(which appears to be slightly newer and no longer includes the yahoo references). Within the 'product fields' download is an sql patch.

I have copied the files from both 'add-on modules' and copied and pasted the sql to the admin/tools/sql updated menu. I am not finding where any difference is in my admin area. Where am I to find the new options for handling fees, etc??(again, i am probably over analyzing this)

The extra fields from both mods will appear when you add or edit a product. You'll have to go to Admin - Modules - Order Total to activate the Enviornmental Fee which will be in the list there. If not, you've done something wrong. I just installed these in a test site. Very useful mod from Numinix, as usual.

I've messed with this for a long time now, something isnt right. I have the handling fee module turned on in the admin/modules/order total section. The handling fee is showing up on the product description. The flag is set for adding it to the order AND for showing it on the shopping cart screen. Yet, it is NOT adding a handling fee to the order total or showing it on the shopping cart screen. Any ideas?

alright, I figured it out.... as it turns out, you have to be VERY specific with your fee groups. Unless you put 'none' in there with a value of 0 it doesn't seem to recognize the actual group. Anyhow, that's what I had to do to make it work...

    Groups - none, HazMat
    Fees - 0,5

Without the 'none' and '0' I couldn't make it work. It's working fine now tho. Thankyou for the assistance.

BTW--- I was at Everett HS with the family for a floor hockey tournament last Sat and Sun. The kids took 2nd place...
