    Default Sub attributes possible?

I have a price chart for a service I offer. I create custom paintings for clients and my prices are based on 3 variables, the medium used (pencil, paint), the size of the painting and the number of people in the painting.

So for example a 12x16, painting with one person is $130 but if the person wanted 2 people in the painting the price changes to $160.

Is it possible to configure my product options to do this?

Yes... you can apply price adjustment to attributes.

Thank you for your response. I did that but my problem is the price is based on more than one factor.

I had it setup for adjusting the price by size but I also need to take into account the number of people in the painting. The problem is there isn't a flat cost for each additional person added. At 12x16 it costs $30 but when you get to sizes like 36''X48'' the price for each additional person is nearly $100 because of the cost of material and extra time to complete.

If I were to add each price for each size and number of people my dropdown list would be massive.

I'm trying to accomplish something similar to this:

What you are looking for is DEPENDANT attributes - where the options offered in option "b" are dependant on what was previously selected in option "a".

Zencart 1.3.8 is unable to perform this feature.

There is a likelihood that it will be possible in ZC version 2 to build modules that are able to do this, but even then it will not be a "one size fits all" feature because of the "custom" nature of attributes in any given store.

Individual store owners wil still have to write custom code to effect this.

The only route you have is to apply what would otherwise be an attribute option, to the actual products - so in your case, individual products would have to be given a static characteristic of size, for example. Then, it's a case of needing only ONE variable attribute to adjust prices based on the painting's composition.

It would be hard work either way... even if attribute dependency was possible, because the data that relates to each individual product still needs to be input.

schoolboy thank you so much for taking to time to lay it all out like that. I hope version 2 has this feature.

I think in my case as a temporary solution since payment is only received after the painting is finished I'll just list the attributes without calculating the price and write out the price chart for each product while leaving the order total at 0.

Bear in mind that you will need to configure checkout to allow this. Currently, checkout assumes products have a price, and thereafter the shopper is guided to a payment option.

You may be able to customize "Product is Free" so that checkout can be concluded. You will need to "style" this so that the default messages that indicate a "free" product rather reflect the fact that the price is determined - and applied - later
