added catagories showing in sidebox and on main page?

hi, i have been adding multible catagories to my site as per the instructions. I have just checked and they have all appeared in the side box as expected but have also all appeared on the main page between the header and the `congrtaulations ` banner.
Would somebody be able to advise me where i went wrong please.
