Products and in store pickup

I'm not sure where to post this question so going to start here.

We have some products that we'd rather not ship but want to make available for in store pickup. The objective is to let local customers shop our entire store inventory while "shipping" customers can shop a subset.

Is there a way control if a product is shown based on location? Or to mark a product as available for in store pick up only? Basically, I don't want someone to be able to buy a product only to find out we won't ship that item.

Hopefully I explained that well and hopefully someone can point me to a simple solution.

I have this very same question. Can anybody point us in the right direction?

The site I'm working on for a client has a few very large items that they realy can't ship but still want to be able to sell on the website.

this seems like it'd be an easy one. i'll keep searching for the answer and hopefully we can all figure it out!

i have frozen items that i don't really want to ship right now (waiting on UPS account activation, dry ice, etc etc). but would like my local customers to be able to pick it up in-store.

i do want them to be displayed for all to see, however, but maybe when you add to cart, the words "in store pickup only" would be there.

AFAIK, there isn't a way to flag specific products for in-store pickup only. However, you could set up a category called "In-Store Pickup Only" or something similar, and then sub-categories for food, furniture, etc., and then make sure the items you aren't going to ship are only put in those categories.

Here is what I ended up doing. I marked the item in question as "call for price" then in the description explained that because of the items size (in my case) that we would need to contact frieght companies to get the right shipping fit for that customer.

Now if it's an item that is in store pick up only I can put that into the product description as well. This is a work around that does not envolve code change... because I don't feel like doing this --> just yet
