Product Pages take over 5,000 queries to load?

I need some help. Zencart 1.3.8 with php 5.1.6 and mysql 5.0. I turned on the parsetime, query count thing at the bottom of our site to see if i could figure out what mysql and apache were maxing out at near 99%. I noticed it uses over 5,000 queries to load any page on the site.

I have dug and dug in the code but cannot find whats making all those calls. On the product page even if i display the left nav and entire attributes i still have over 4,500 queries.

Any ideas or help here?

Sounds like you're having a problem. ;-)

I just tried my retail site and found that most pages displayed with under 200 queries, with a category listing page taking around 600 queries. Page parse times were about .5 seconds.

Although the [someday] v2.0 is said to greatly cut down on page queries (in other words, it's a known problem) I don't think the numbers you're reporting are normal or expected.
