Quantity Discount, per item, or per cart?

In Catalog -> Products Price Manager I have introduced a quantity discount which reduces the price of the product by $1.00 at each level. The question is: does the customer have to purchase the number of the same item to get the discount, or is the discount then available to all items which have this same quantity discount.

Example: I have three items for sale, prod. code: item1, item2, item3. They all have a discount of $1.00 when the quantity of 3 items is reached. If the customer buys one item1 and two item2's, will he then have his before tax total cart reduced by $1.00?

If not, is there a way to set that to per total?

The Products Price Manager has Discount Quantities for the immediate Product ... they are not related to other Products in the store ...

it doesn't work. I tried all night and proved it's not working. the one you need should be the quantity discount module. but i did everything textbook and this module is also not working. heard someone say need to install sql?

I have the same question....

I want the discount to apply to multiple products. In other words, I have a category of toddler pillows. Each product in that category is a diff pattern. So, if some one buys 2 pillows, I want them to get a multi-item discount. But, I cannot figure a way to do this with multiple products.

Any tricks?

Zen Cart does not have built in discounts for Categories or Products as you are describing ... but you might search the Free Software Add Ons for:
discount

and see if any of those would work for you ...
