Idea or Suggestion Redeem Coupon Codes at Storefront Home Page

Having customers enter their discount codes on the home page of the storefront... once entered they can see the discount applied to the product pages during the shopping process and through checkout.

I seen this on another store and thought the idea was a great solution to a problem I am having!

Here's my problem. Paypal Express Checkout and customers wanting to use discount codes. The problem is my customers are shopping, adding stuff to the cart, then they want to checkout and see two options... Paypal Express Checkout and the regular Checkout button. So of course they use the Express checkout and wouldn't you know it they are taken to Paypal's website with no way to enter the discount code to get their 20% off. So they drop the sale and say screw it. Maybe they try it again thinking they missed something but end up in the same situation.

The problem is customers can only enter their discount codes on the normal checkout... which would be fine... except I need Express as an option because its better than using the other Paypal option in Zencart.

Another issue. Even if a customer does use regular checkout and enters their discount and the discount is shown... When they go to Paypal to make a payment the amount of the sale shown is the original amount before the disount is applied. The actual amount charged is the sale amount but they don't know that! All they see is no discount at the payment Paypal level and again... stop the sale.

What I was thinking is if the customers can redeem their discounts right from the jump... then not only would it entice them to buy more because they see the discount applied... But also whatever payment method they use the final amount being charged should be the same either way WITH the discount applied!

Can someone please help me out with this?????

    Thanks Zen guru's!

Okay... that solved the discount code carrying over to Paypal. Thanks for the link!!!!

Issue #2. Still want to get that discount code applied from the store home page. Anyone know of a module/plug-in to do this?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I am also looking to move the discount coupon entry field. Not necessarily on the storefront homepage but maybe just to the first part of the checkout. I wanted the referral code to work as the discount coupon form, but I can't seem to find anything.

I figure, once we know a way to move the entry field, this solution could apply to you perhaps, as long as someone has something in their cart. For my situation, I thought of the one
page checkout mod. I'll update to let you know how that goes.

scratch One-Page checkout. I'm scared to use it. (the files are in the completely wrong structure...don't know if they are supposed to be like that) I'm going to use fast and easy checkout instead. More to come.....

Were you able to move the coupon field to the first page of the checkout process?

If the customer continues on after selecting their funding source (which is ALL they're doing if they start Express Checkout from your shopping cart), then they'll be taken back to your store directly to the page where they can enter their coupon code, and then the discount will be applied to the order when they confirm the details on the next page ... at which time their paypal account is debited. It seems you're just not following through with the process as it's presented to you.

If you upgrade to v1.3.9g or later, several things are changed with that.
    a) the actual details are displayed at PayPal, with updated totals
    b) and you can turn off the shortcut-button on the shopping cart page to force them to go thru "normal" (as you call it) checkout ... thus they can enter their coupons before they even choose to use PayPal.

    Dr Byte,

That is very interesting info. Thanks for the insight.

Do you have any input on how to move the coupon field to the first page of the checkout process?

    Thanks!
