Only 3 New Products Show on Main Page

I can only get 3 new products to show up in the center main New Products section. I have tried changing the Index Listing in Configuration to 5 images per row. I still only get 3 images. I have tried changing Maximum values - that didn't work I have looked at all kinds of files and couldn't find anything.

I have spent hours searching this forum and can't find an answer.

When site is loading - all new products (7) show briefly but then only 3 stay.

The sidebox works fine - shows whatever I ask it to show.

I have noticed that when I look at the source code all the images are listed but for some strange reason they don't show up except for the first 3. I am using MAMP on a Mac PPC.
