    Default Adding affiliate banner

    Hi All,

ok, so I have read FAQ's and searched the forum, followed instructions galore, and I still do not know how to add my host's affiliate HTML banner code, so the banner shows up on the right side of my page and correctly, so I get credit if anyone signs up.

I have turned on sections/sides before with EASE, but I can't get it to work. It's been a while. I turned on the banner box for the right side, maybe my settings are wrong? I enabled it in the layout settings too. can you tell me what my setting should be set at for the right side banner box and......I think I am confused in the banner manager area.

Where it says Banner URL, do I put the affiliate banner HTML there or down further in the HTML text area? I do not have a banner saved, as I said, it's an affiliate banner so it's HTML and when they click it I get credit if they buy.

I don't know how the settings in the banner manager should be for HTML Affiliate banner.

If I had the right settings, I think it should work.

    I am about going crazy!

    Thanks all,

If you have HTML code ... place it in the HTML box of the banner and see if that doesn't work better for you ...

Thanks so much for your reply!

Do you mean the HTML text box? If so, I did. It didn't work. So here is what I am doing, I found the Affiliate link to use instead of the HTML coding. I followed what I've found on here for changing the right column so it works...and it still isn't working. : (

So I have in my alyout box controller:

    banner box:

    left/right column status : On
    Location: right
    Left/right sort: 1
    single column sort: 0
    single column: Off

    then in layout settings:

Banner display groups side box : Sidebox- banners banner_box (don't understand what this feature does?)

    Column Right Status-Global: 1
(Left Column is also 1 of course)

    Under Banner manager:

    going down the list:

    active
    Banner new window : yes
Banner SSL: Yes (should it be?)
    Then my title,
Banner URL: the affiliate URL is there now
Banner group: Made a name for it

    Image: uploaded the banner

    Image Target: nothing
    HTML Text: Nothing this time
    Sort order: 0

Then I put today's date in there so it shows up right away

I hope that helps. I am doing my best to figure this out. Thanks for the continued help!

First, you said that you had HTML code for this to be loaded in the:
    HTML Text:

... but now you are saying you are loading a banner URL ... it is either one or the other not both ...

Next, banners need to be added to a Banner Group so you can add the name of the Banner Group in the Configuration ... Layout Settings ... for where you want to see the banner ...

You can use an existing Banner Group name or make your own ...

The SSL means that the Banner can run on a secure page such as the Login or checkout without errors ... normally you wouldn't want the banner that is HTML code and will take them off the site to run on the secure pages ...

NOTE: The New Window option does not work on HTML Text for the banner as this kind of banner is doing its own thing ... you may be able to alter the HTML code to make it open a new window ...

Yes, that is right. I said I was using HTML at 1st and then I said I was switching to URL because well, HTML didn't work.

I canged that banner box setting in the configuration area and that was the issue, Thank you.

One more thing. The side box title on my mainpage says "sponsors" above the banner. I don't see that title, for that side box, in the Layout Boxes Controller".

How can I change it to another "title
for that side box, that the banner is in. The company the banner is for, they aren't "sponsoring" the banner.

Can I make my own "category or title for that side box?

    I don't recall if I can.

Go to the Tools ...Developers Tool Kit ... and in the bottom input box enter:
    sponsers

and do a search on the Catalog to find where it is defined ...

Then, using your templates and overrides you can change what it reads ...

Well, I'm just not that savy with "definitions" and what they mean etc.

Argh...but the bigger problem is, the gal (idiot) that set up my 1st store, didn't do an over ride. Lucky me....nor did the other gal I hired to set up my other store.

Next time, I will be sure they do, I found an awesome gal that I KNOW will do an over ride when I start my 3rd store.

I asked the 2nd one gal to do that before she even started the store, and she told me she did, but she lied. I had my Zen Cart savy friends help me look and see and sure enough, she didn't.

So I guess I can't change it if I don't have an over ride?

In the template selection, I have one template and nowhere to change anything.

I appreciate your help soo much though. I appreciate it!

    Thanks
