Default Problem with renaming Admin folder

In trying to upgrade from 1.3.0 to 1.3.8 have run into a myriad of problems but one by on I'm making progress. Thanks to those that have posted replys to my request for help. In doing all this work, I have found that none of the security patches have been installed so I'm going by the list to get them installed. I'm working on Securty Patch V138_20090619 now. Trying to change the Admin folder to something else. I was able to rename the folder that's online but I can not get the folder on my PC to let me rename it. I've tried using FTP, Frontpage and Explore. I've checked and to be sure that no other program is using any of the website's files. It appears to let me change read-only but if go right back in, it has reverted to ready-only so can't rename the folder. Any suggestions on how to get the folder renamed? I've gone round & round but no luck.

    Hi There,

    Thats seems a bit odd..

When you say on your own computer.. are you talking about a server environment?

Just as you say it is on your own computer... you wouldn't need FTP or any other program. Just navigate to it through your folders and right click to edit permissions.

Generally, if you can't change permissions with your web host folders it is because the server admin installed Zen Cart using admin permissions.
Then when you access at a user level you can't edit permissions on some or any of your folders. IN this case you would send an email to Tech support on your host and ask them to change the admin permissions to user permissions as you cannot make changes to your cart.
    That wasn't the plan!

I use Frontpage to create/manage my websites. The files for each website is on my personal PC so I can make any changes to the site. I tried to change the file name using frontpage, tried to change it with FTP when I was uploading some other files, tried to change it using explore but it keeps giving me an access denied error stating I don't have permission to change it or the disk is full or some other program is using it (I have checked & double checked ...nothing else is using it). I've changed the admin file name on the server, it's on my own pc I can't the file name. I just went through 'my computer & folder options' to try to change permissions but I can't get anything to work. What if I FTP the new named folder from the server down to my pc, then upon a clean transfer I could delete the old folder. Think that would work....as in be safe?

Your idea of downloading the renamed dir. from your Hosting account is good one and should work.

Some programs "lock" a file when in use. Don't know if that's true of FrontPage but sounds like it. After you close the program you will probably have to wait an hour or so before you can edit the file name and/or dir. This also applies to any deleting.

It is most likely frontpage is causing the issue.

You would need to restart your computer and NOT open the file in frontpage until you access if via navigating to the file.

Navigate to the file manually.. ie through your folders where it is located.

You then need to right click on the folder and make sure read only is not ticked.

You mentioned something about my computer and folder options so i'm not sure your doing it correctly.

If your still having issues with your computer stating the file is being used you could use: http://download.cnet.com/Unlocker/30...-10493998.html

However, do this at your own risk. I have never had a problem using this software but thats not to say it can;t happen.

Basically when a file is locked after you install this program you can right click on it and then click on unlocker.

However, I suggest you try and change permissions on you computer first manually as suggested initially.

FrontPage is not a good idea when working with PHP sites. FP tends to strip in its own formatting and a lot of other dross that can break PHP.

Some hosts do not permit changing 0444 to a lower security level (eg: 0644) via FTP and it can only be done through CPanel.

Put FrontPage back in its box amd keep it well away from Zencart.

Another way, maybe you can try to copy the folder that you would like to rename and name it as what you wanted. Try delete the folder after sometime.
