    Default Sub Domains with content

Im running Zen Cart on the Main Directory. type the URL, I hit the Zen Cart Home.

Part of my business is custom work, as well as shop items. What I am wondering.. Is it safe to add subdomains to my site, which may contain scripts, dont know yet, and not screw up the zen cart main directory?

One of the things I want to add is a photo album. I'm likely to build this in flash. I may add a forum at some point too, likely PHPbb since I am already familiar with it.

Is it safe to just go ahead and drop these into sub domains of the main site? or is there something complex I need to do, and will it play nice with zen cart?

    Thanks

It is generally safe to have sub-domains.

    There are some considerations:

Having visitors navigate OUT of zencart runs the risk of their session expiring. If they spend more than a certain time out of the zencart "section", their session will expire, resulting in (for example) any shopping cart being "emptied".

phpBB will integrate with ZC. There is lots of info on that.

In general a subdomain should be treated by the server as a completely different site. It's rare that there's a problem.

The most likely issue is where the sub-domains are added as folders under the main domain, and therefore can be accessed both as subdomainname.example.com and www.example.com/subdomainname/.

Some simple redirects can block the latter from directly serving Duplicate Content.

    Hey

Thanks for clearing that up, the person who started this site for me said there would be tons of problems, hard to believe since I imagine a lot of differetn OScommerce, inluding Zen can be run on subdomains themselves.

    Thanks Again!
