Well, I don't know about a "double-list" like that one, but would a single list with a scroll (after so far) work for you?

A scroll? What is that? Can you explain what it does or would look like. I would prefer to use the double column if at all possible.

Scroll.....................you know..................say the menu "Fly's out" to be only 200-300px long, whatever you specify, then the rest of the list scrolls (with a scrollbar on the right side)............just like your browser window does.
