Adding Additional Field Account Edit Page

I am looking to add an additional field to the Edit Account page that will allow the user to modify the company field. My reasoning for this is that I sell digital items and need the "account name" for the person buying the item, and I have been using the Company Field for this.

I've already removed the links to the address book as to edit their information the customer would have to actually enter a physical address, which I do not want.

I know how to add the table, where I am having a problem is having it write to the database correctly, and to have it pull the current information from the database correctly.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have one more quick question..I have removed the address requirements on my site and everything is going smooth except for one thing. Anywhere the address would normally be displayed (ie order e-mails, checkout pages) there seems to be a problem.

What shows up is this:


(Company name)
(First, Last Name)
(Blank line)
(Blank line with a comma in the middle)
(Country)

Those two blank lines are extremely annoying. Where would I go to get rid of this?
