additional images not displaying

Yes, I have read through every related thread I can find. I have named the images correctly and have set General product type > Show Product Additional Images to True. I have switched back to the Classic template and they are not displaying there either.
Here's one page where there should be an additional image:

In the images/categories folder there are two images: 12412.jpg and 12412_01.jpg.
What else could be wrong???

These are not category images - they are product images

Try moving them to /images and resetting this location in the product setup

Thanks Kobra, but from what I've read it shouldn't matter which directory the images are in, as long as they're in the same directory and are named correctly.
Nevertheless, I am desperate so I tried putting them all in the main Images directory and it made no difference
Anyone else have an idea?

You must have a javascript problem somewhere in your template and/or addons, cuz if you turn off Javascript in your browser settings, your additional images show just fine.

I've searched the forum and especially the "Ask a question" thread but can't find any references. Anyway, it could be anything. Can anyone give me a pointer how to start working out what might be conflicting here?
Or, how do I disable "Ask a question"?

Probably need to rename your additional image
hellosailor.jpg
hellosailor_01.jpg

Your main image is /images/IMGP2479_sm.jpg
So, your additional images for that product must all be named like this:
IMGP2479_sm_SOMETHING.jpg
The link kobra mentioned above is the right reference for understanding how it works.

Probably need to rename your additional image
hellosailor.jpg
hellosailor_01.jpg

kobra, it's not necessary to use "_01" for the naming convention.
If she wanted to use "_detail" to delineate from "_info" or "smiling", that would be fine too.

I thought that I had replaced that image with new renamed image, but obviously not. Have done so now and it now works.
