Creating collection categories that appear in a sidebar and not in the category tab

Hi,

I've seen this question asked on the tutorial site but haven't been able to track down the solution. I'm looking to create some new categories (collections) and to display these in a new sidebox, separate from the existing category set. Any pointers, greatly received :)

You can do this with Categories Dressing, giving the appearance of a separate sidebox.
It is also possible to use the documents sidebox, with some tricky product type restriction settings on a category (not that difficult as long as you follow directions). Ajeh has posted the method for doing this somewhere.
