parse error question

after applying the asecurity patches and fixes, i attempted to log in to my renamed admin and i receive the following message: parse error: syntax error, unexpected '*' on line 40

the only file that i can seed that's even close to this is application_top.php. i do not see any file named application.php in the [admin]/includes/

any thoughts? did i forget to update something?

Yes, there's something incorrectly missing, added or mismatched, in one of the PHP files that you edited.
