Installation hangs at Database Setup

Hello,

My first attempt at an installation here...

I have followed the instructions and set permissions for the configure.php files to 777 and verified they are set correctly.

During the installation process I complete all the required information regarding the name of the server; username for the db ; pwd and db name and when I click the Save Database Settings button at the bottom of the page - it reloads the page and resets all the values to the original default form values.

There are no error messages displayed that I can find...

I have checked the includes/configure.php file and none of the values I entered are being written to the file.

Any suggestions on how to fix this or where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Is your /cache/ folder writable?

Yes... it is. (0777)

I noticed when I manually edited the configure.php files and uploaded them to the server, then manually modified the URL to system_setup and attempted to bypass the database_setup - it re-wrote the configure.php files back to their original un-populated state - overwriting the values I had previously entered.

Inside your /cache/ folder are some zcInstallxxxxxxxxxx.log files.
Are they reporting any errors?

Lot of logs (I was wondering where those were hiding).

FIle permissions are set to 777 on both... initial check by zen says they are writeable - but appear to be failing when under script control?

Perhaps you need to change ownership on the files to suit the unique configuration requirements imposed by your particular hosting company's server configuration?

Will that also be true of all the other directorys that were chmod'd to 777 as well?

I don't understand the assumptions behind your question.
