Default Can I keep the old database?

Sorry for the lame question; if I upgrade all of the php files to 1.3.9a - will it work with the current (in my case 1.3.8.a) installed mysql database?

I didnt see if there were changes made to the DB itself in the upgrade, and i thought if there weren't, it would be nice to be able to just update the files.

    Cheers,

    Scott.

The CORRECT way to upgrade is to follow the posted instructions contained in the /docs/ folder of the unzipped Zen Cart files.
The same information is summarized in the FAQs area, with links to the detailed instructions also on that page: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=98

Merely replacing a bunch of files does not properly upgrade any files you've manually customized, and if you opt to not compare all your own files against the originals to identify changes made by you or your addons, then you'll lose all that functionality if you simply overwrite the files.

As to the database content, if you follow the published upgrade instructions, all your data will be retained and the database structure upgraded appropriately to suit the newer version.

Hi Doctor, I completely understand about comparing files and I intend to do so. I want to implemenet ALL the code you guys have written for 1.3.9a

I was simply asking if the 1.3.9a php pages could be plugged into my existing mysql shop database.

That is, if you just upgrade the PHP files the site will stop working because there will be stuff missing from the database, stuff that is needed by the new PHP files.

Ok thanks. I did read briefly through the install upgrade doc, but it didnt seem to mention how you migrate your data from the old db to the new?

I guess you create the demo db like the doc said and do a full mysql dump of the old db, then import into the new one..
