My store doesn't show images

Using ZC 1.3.9a with no add ons.

I just had XO install the ZC last Friday. Everything works as expected except that the cart shows no images (just get an image placeholder).
I added some categories with my own images, same results.
I checked that images are properly located and they appear to be, but can't figure out how to make the store show the images.
I'd appreciate any help

What are the permissions set to on your /images folder?

Interesting issue with folder - when I enter the http address for the folder, IE doesn't find it

Solution:
Okay, this was a bit of a pain, but it seems to have worked.
When XO installed the cart, a couple files appeared that didn't appear in other cart installations that I use. This are:
images/.htaccess and images/uploads/.htaccess.
It took some effort, but removing these files seems to have done the trick.
