blank page after trying to remove "Congratulations, You have successfully installed..

I've just installed the 1.3.8a version, and used Notebook to make a change in the index.php text to remove the "Congratulations ..."
After following the directions, and replacing the index.php, I got a blank browser. Everything is gone, just blank.
I was able to bring back the content only by undoing the text change
I tried this on a test subdomain as well, making no changes to the original installation, except for deleting the Congratulations lines. Same thing happened.
Does someone know what going wrong.

In your /cache/ folder you will find PHP error logs entitled "myDebug-xxxxxx.log" which are recording the PHP syntax problems created by your edits. Read those files to find out what went wrong in your edits.
Then check the FAQ area for solutions to the messages you find there.
