How to display a banner?

I'm using version 1.3.8a. I have used Banner Manager and done the following:
Banner status--active
Set banner to open new window
Set banner SSL--on
Entered a banner title
Did not enter a URL
Created a banner group
Chosen an image
Did not enter anything in Image Target
Set dates to begin and expire
Clicked update

Then edited banner display groups in Admin>Configuration>Layout Settings by typing in group name in Banner Display Groups - Side Box banner_box.

The banner is not displaying on my page. Please help.

Do you have the sidebox turned on and positioned in Admin/Tools/Layout Boxes Controller?
