internal server error..

im new to zen-cart and the whole oscommerce scene. i am attempting to do this on my own so bare with me

i have an account with coolhandle(pronethosting?) and i can install zencart using fantastico on there control panel. however it is a older version. I tried following the upgrade tutorial and was getting some security error and some patching messages.


Instead of going through the errors i decided to start from scratch and follow the very informative tutorials on here. well i uploaded the unzipped files to /public_html/store. I changed all the permissions it stated to, aswell as renaming the config files in both locations.

when i install the old version via my host's cp it works but now i did everything manually and when i goto www.mydomain.com/store or /store/zc_install/ even index.php after zc_install/ and i just receive this error instead of getting to the installation screen.

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

i searched for the error on the board and found a few things referring to .htaccess one member suggested rename .htaccess to .htaccess_OFF. I tried this and still no luck. if the .htaccess file has to be edited, where do you suggest i do this through and what would i need to change?

if theres other issues that might be causing it let me know.

the only thing i can find as far as an error log goes through my cpanel is showing me this..

Your webserver's configuration is set up by your hosting company to disallow setting folders to entirely "writeable".
As the error messages say, you've got your /public_html/store/ folder set to writeable, which is causing the errors.

You may need to contact your hosting company to find out what permissions you're allowed to use on their servers.

i just changed the store and zc_install folders to 755 and all is well now
