13 permission denied

another little speed bump here for me. now i have everything uploaded and my store shows up(currently default template and settings).

after install it ask if i want to goto the store or admin area. The store works but when i goto mydomain/store/admin i get a 403 forbidden error which states i dont have permission to access store/admin on this server.

when i goto the error log of my site this is what i see

[Mon May 10 15:39:44 2010] [crit] (13)Permission denied: /home/exquisit/public_html/store/admin/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable.

I changed permission to 777 still nothing back to 755 same error etc.

i searched the boards but all the error logs the people are posting for forbidden access to admin cart have something to do with the php streaming or something and not the .htaccess like my error.

The message suggests that you've set permissions on your .htaccess file so low that even your Apache webserver service can't read it.

Best to talk to your hosting company for specific assistance if you're having troubles with that file and your hosting control panel's file manager doesn't let you set its permissions correctly again.

i will contact the hosting company as the .htaccess file does not show up in my admin directory while browsing my files in there control panel file manager. It shows up in the directory when i log in through filezilla and i set my permissions through there.

Your control panel file manager might be set to hide hidden files (files prefixed with a "." are treated as hidden).

Also, you could alternatively use your FTP program to delete the troublesome .htaccess file and re-upload the appropriate one back to the server. This effectively gives the file the same permissions as the folder is set to give all other new files in that folder.
