I have just tried about anyting to order my options in a specific way.
The first attribute should move to second last (between 'color' and 'date of event'. But it won't. I've tried all kinds of order numbers, but none succeeding.
I'm sure it is something small I'm overlooking somewhere

Have you tried admin/option name manager? You should be able to set the sort order to whatever you want.

Oops! Forgot this part. You should also "update sort to default order" in attributes controller. That should finish it out.
