Update / Edit problems

I recently upgraded to 1.3.9b as well as the patches. However this problem was happening even before the upgrade.

Anyhow, I can't update or edit items such as the shipping/payment modules. I can install it, but it won't update when I make changes. It just takes me back to the main admin page. I have no idea what I need to correct in order to get it to work. So when I add anything from API login to my shipping Table rate, it won't update with my corrections.

Any thoughts or help?

What mods do you have installed (including versions)?

No 3rd party mods. I was using Authorize.net, Paypal, checking/money order...and then table rate shipping, free shipping.

I was even trying to delete some pending transactions that are old and fraudulent. I had been able to delete them at first, but now I can't delete either.

Again, basically anything I do where I need to click the "update" button, it doesn't update and just sends me back to the main admin page.

Did this problem start when you did the patches to 1.3.8a?

If you go to the admin/includes/functions/html_output.php file, what's the date and time stamp in the header block say?

I'm not sure when the problem arose exactly. Can't recall if I had done any patches to 1.3.8a or if that was the fresh install.

I am now not on my home/work pc so I can't check the stamp on admin/includes/functions/html_output.php. I seem to recall that file may have been included in the update I did earlier so it might be current. Or no?

The only time stamp that matters is the one on your server.

That's not the version that ships with 1.3.9b or the security patch. It's most likely your problem, but if you're not using any add-on mods, I can't recommend a safe fix without knowing how it came to be there.

So, can I conceivably overwrite that file with the one from 1.3.9b / patch or is that not an actual fix?

Without knowing how or why that version of the file got there, I can't give you safe advice. You may have other files that are out of date, and that file may have changes that you need for other reasons.

As you've only just done your upgrade, you will presumably know where this comes from. But you need to share this information for us to advise you properly.
