Godaddy email problems...

I have had the same problems with godaddy's mail() (error: could not instantiate mail function), with the same settings listed at http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79854. I have one domain hosted on were it works just fine. The second domain hosted with godaddy with the same setup does not work. I called support and asked them if there was something they could reset or fix and they could not fix the problem.

I fresh installed everything with the exact same code and one works and the other does not. I have searched through the godaddy help and all over the internet and can not find a solution. I have called support and they could not help me. I searched through the godaddy hosting settings and could not find any settings that I needed to activate. I am not sure what to do now. I can't have a contact form without it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, I finally got the mail() function to work by switching back to PHP 4.4.9 in the hosting control center for the site that was not working. I am not quite sure why that worked, but it did. Maybe something just needed to be be reinstalled or restarted.

I noticed that when I connected with ssh to my site that was working and typed php -v that it was saying PHP 4.4.9. However when I looked at my account under the hosting control center it said PHP 5.x . I put a php file in the root directories of both sites with <?php phpinfo(); ?> then pulled up the both of the files in a web browser and compared. They were identical. Both said that they were running PHP 5.2.8.

Everything was identical according to the test. The mail() code ran on one site and not the other. I wonder why it would say PHP 4.4.9 in shell but not on the phpinfo() test. Well, anyway it works now running 4.4.9 on the site that was not working. The site that was working originally still says php 5.2.8 in the phpinfo() test but not at the command line, so I am a little puzzled by that. The people on the phone at Godaddy were no help at all with this. All they do is email you a confusing help file about their new contact form scripts. They said they do not help debug code and the support guy said he had never heard of the mail() function. It is a shared account so you can't just restart the server. I might try to upgrade again to PHP 5.x just to see what happens. Maybe there is something different with the mail() function in PHP 5.

You can skip the PHP "mail()" function call altogether if you choose SMTP as your Email Transport Protocol, as instructed in the link I posted in my previous reply to you.
