cant access the admin area after install

Hi I have just installed the latest version of zen cart 1.3.9h, and although I can see the front end of the website I cannot access the backend. I get a 404 error message. I have been all over the 2 config files in the admin/includes and the includes folder and they appear to be spot on. I am waiting for my SSL certificate and so did not enable SSL but did install the zen cart file structure to HTTPs folder on my server.

Any one have any suggestions as to why I can't access the backend, its got me stumped.

My case was not very similar with yours, but I got it fixed and I just want to share how. Perhaps my learning may help others.

I followed the step by step instructions, without realizing that I have to change the configure.php (not just make it read-only) to point to the new Admin name I assigned. Prior to doing this, I just renamed the admin and thought it would naturally point to my admin page.

After I did that, I was able to see the admin log in page and enter!

i renamed the admin folder then i renamed the links as it tells you on this page

I still had the same problem after this so i removed the htaccess folder from the admin folder and it then lets you access it, and the stylesheet works

I know this isnt the solution so i need to find out whats wrong with my htaccess files as there are about 10 in the zen cart install folder

The .htaccess file is specifically designed to work regardless of the name you give the admin.

Of course it is there for a Linux installation. Windows-based servers will need to have other security measures installed.

If you are on Linux (Apache), perhaps your host has something going on that doesn't work with Zen Cart.
