Hi All...
A quick question whilst upgrading what needs to be done in order to retain the pages that have already been indexed and ranked by the Search Engines or is all this taken care of by the old data base import.

Unless you have a "URL Re-write" module of some kind, the new code and database have absolutely no effect/influence on your current SE rankings.

Hi schoolboy, I am sorry I fail to understand ....so should I do nothing and the upgrade takes care of my indexed pages as they are (remain the same) or will they all be lost and if this is the case how do i prevent this?

You have nothing to worry about (unless you are using a SEO URL REWRITE module).

The code files are not indexed by search engines, and as the UPGRADE involves code files, you can upgrade.

The process of upgrading is detailed, so find out what you need to do before you try the upgrade.

The files you upload are basically a 'program'. When a user requests a page from the site, that program reads the database and 'makes' the HTML page to send out to the browser.

When you upload a new version of that program none of your data is changed or deleted. The only way for your data to be lost is if you corrupt or delete the database itself.

Bingo Thanks a million I fully understand now. I have a couple more if I may about upgrading?

I run a number of sites most are 138a with exception of 1 which is the first on 1.3.0.2. I am keen to have them all on the same vs for ease of maintenance.

1. I realize it is a big job to upgrade them all to 139c but I assume it is possible without any major problems though Mods and templates designed for 138a may not be compatible and I believe I have around 15 of them so I am leaning towards just bringing 1.3.0.2 in line with the others.

Comments Welcome.

2. My 1.3.0.2 has very little modified from original files set except templates and a few other things, having utilized the override system a straight upgrade would be the easiest right?

2a. As I have full file sets of 138A could I change the necessary config files etc. upload my 1.3.0.2 DB and make changes to the template and other files in my over ride, thus ending up with the same result of an upgrade but with all the modes already installed?

Thanks helping me clarify my path to take would lift a huge state of confusing that keeps going round in circles of my own mind.
