    Default Data base patch?

    Hi,
I have started upgrading all my sites to 139c. I started with a clean install for the first one and install went fine. I tried to do a restore of the sql DB to restore the customers Info and I get a message the DB needs patch updates. Which do I need and where are they on the site?
    Thanks,
    Mark

The proper way to upgrade is described here: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=108
Simply copying files and importing databases is not enough. Follow the instructions and things will be easier on you.
The instructions are also in the /docs/ folder of your zip file and your site.

    Hi DrByte,
So I guess your saying their is no patch for this and start over. I install the new copy to be a fresh install of the cart but I attached it to the old cart DB. My old cart which is still running 138 still looks fine. when I restored the db from the back up is when i started getting the error only in the new install, the 138 copy has no errors and appears happy. I do plan to run the update following your procedure for the other sites but wanted to run the first install as a normal install. Guess I can continue to use the old cart for now. Sorry

you need to in your case

make a fresh install of 1.3.9c (done)
    copy database to new 1.3.9c
    run the install again
secect updat database in the install
    start installing mods again

or in my case i did the following
make a fresh install of 1.3.9c (done)
    copy database to new 1.3.9c
    run the install again
secect updat database in the install
    start installing mods again
3 weeks later copy new products over from old site using easy populate
keep old site running for the old customers to check the orders

i not figgered out how to import the order and customers from the old database to the new database which is running different mods and 1.3.9 over 1.3.7

IT IS SAFEST TO *NOT* selectively copy only certain parts of your data between sites/databases.
The intended proper upgrade procedure takes your ENTIRE database at one time. Yes, that may mean you'll have to re-do some admin-side settings changes or addons after redoing your upgrade on your live site. THAT IS THE SAFEST WAY. Any other approach should only be done if you have SOLID database skills and solid understanding of the ZC database architecture.

That really is a lot to do just to upgrade. Upgrades should NOT wipe out everything in your EZ pages & it should not be that difficult to accomplish. When I update WordPress, I simply click upgrade & it does the rest.
    Remember the KISS rule.

I'm not sure who said that "upgrades wipe out everything in your EZ pages" ... but it certainly wasn't me.

If you follow the posted upgrade documentation, you won't be losing any EZ pages data, nor customer or order or product data either.

As for the "KISS rule", upgrading really isn't that complicated. If you have a lot of customizations then yes, you've added complexity to it.

As for comparing a highly advanced ecommerce system against a simple database of text documents in wordpress, they're a hugely different scale.

I realize that WordPress is simple in comparison, but I had to upgrade through Fantastico & it completely wiped out all the text on my Main Page. So, it's a little too late. (At least my host backs up the old database for me.
There should be a "Patch" that can be applied directly to the database to upgrade it, not: Install new database, compare files, etc, It's just too much to deal with for what should be a simple upgrade.

Ok, so I guess I'm just frustrated & I can't seem to edit my previous post. Since I used Fantastico, is there a work-around to upgrade? I'd like to avoid having to uninstall & reinstall my entire site & databases.

    Yes, you can:

Use the backup of your site to prepare a fresh copy of newly upgraded *files*.
And a copy of your current live site's database.

Test them, and if necessary, upgrade the database.

Then, just like a regular upgrade, move the new files to the live server and run the database-upgrade part against the live database.

Basically, to fix the broken stuff done by fantastico, use your good backups as a working set and do a regular upgrade by hand. This is only different from the normal process in that you're not taking a backup from your live site, but from a backup prior to fantastico breaking things. Other than that it's pretty much the same.
