Kobra,
Maybe I am not explaining myself.
Dont get me wrong.. the links look helpful and I will read through them carefully (although one of them i have already skimmed) but my question is...
Can I go from a new install and then bring in my old data? I don't want to upgrade... but instead create a clean install and I wasnt sure if it was possible to bring old data into a new install that is a different version of the store. If this is possible and the links you sent me do not cover this.. is there a link that does help with this? I have been looking on the site including the FAQ area and I didnt see anything that talked about migrating old data into a new install.
Thank you again for your time.
Only if you really know the database... and you will have to run the upgrade any way to insure that any tables brought over are correct for the updated code....I don't want to upgrade... but instead create a clean install and I wasnt sure if it was possible to bring old data into a new install
Is there something wrong with your present install?

Kobra,
There isnt a problem with the current install but it just seems like every time I upgrade I have nothing but problems. The last time I had to just install new and I lost all the old data. I really hate to do that because we have a lot of return shoppers.
My concern is I need to send out a marketing newsletter that will most definitely bring a great deal of traffic to our site. Since the store is needs updating, I figured it would be best to get the most up-to-date version up and running BEFORE I sent out the newsletter.
I wish the upgrade process was more automated but I am sure part of that is because of the customization. We havent really done a great deal of customization but we are using a template. How long should it take someone to do an upgrade?
Thanks,

Ok, let me make sure I have this right.
I can install the new version in a new location (for example folder newstore instead of store). I edit the configure.php file so it is pointing to the correct locations and then run the zc_install?
Oh.. and I did not forget the most important part...
