Default Paypal orders not being logged in my 1.3.8

I'm having a strange problem with Paypal orders. I receive an Instant Payment Notification from Paypal, but I do not get the [NEW ORDER] notification email from Zen Cart. Also, the Paypal orders are no longer logged in my "orders" log. As a result, the customer also does not receive an order number or order confirmation email.

Everything was working properly until about 6-8 months ago (possibly until I updated to the newest version 1.3.8a/1.3.8). This problem only applies to Paypal orders.

In my Payment Modules section under Paypal IPN it says the following, and I've already done both:

    PayPal IPN
    Configuration Instructions:
    On www.paypal.com, under "Profile",

    * set your Instant Payment Notification Preferences URL to:
    http://(URL)/cart/ipn_main_handler.php
    * in Website Payments Preferences set your Automatic Return URL to:
    http://(URL)/cart/index.php?main_page=checkout_process

    Any help would be appreciated!

Using the "IPN" module, as you're doing, requires that your server can receive communications from PayPal's servers. If that doesn't happen properly, then you won't see your orders in your store.

However, if you use Express Checkout instead, you won't have to rely on that old archaic flakey paypal architecture to get your orders to complete properly.

If you insist on using the IPN module instead of the newer more reliable EC approach, then you can try troubleshooting your PayPal communications problems following the tips here: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/PayPal

Thanks for the reply. I'm not opposed to using Express Checkout, but is it compatible with v1.3.8 or would I have to upgrade to the newer version?

I don't see Express Checkout Module under the Payment Modules of my version..

Express Checkout was added to Zen Cart in v1.3.7, and has been built-in since then.

Thanks for the help..It solved the problem but created another similar problem:

I updated my site by saving a copy of my database, renaming, installing 1.3.9 into a new directory, updating with copied database and renaming directories to match current site set up.

Now I have a problem with my authorize.net orders. My authorize.net orders are not being logged/zen cart is not sending confirmation emails. Do you think I can solve this by uninstalling/reinstalling the authorize.net module?

I'm not sure exactly what steps you did to "upgrade", but whatever you just wrote doesn't sound like the official published upgrade steps, but rather like you skipped all kinds of things and just hacked your way into a mess.
As such, I can't answer your question. Additionally, your last question is actually answered directly in the v1.3.9 documentation AND in the upgrade documentation.

I worked with twofoureight on this. Basically what we did was attempt to keep the old cart in tact without changing anything just inc case things didn't work properly in the upgrade so as instructed downloaded a back up copy of our database. Installed a 'demo' directory version of 1.3.9 into it. Tested things out as directed and decided to see if our backed up batabase could be tested with the demo folder. Made another copy of that backed up database, edited its name and uploaded it as a 139 db. We went into the cart and redirected it to the new database via the configure.php files. So after that we pretty much had what the upgrade instructions asked of us because we also uploaded our backed up directory folder information into the demo folder. We had two mirrored carts next to each other so that we could keep the other active while updating the demo folder as a test. But after all the tests everything seemed to be operating properly so we just renamed the directories and changes the configure files a second time. Now the only issue we see currently is the authorize.net module not working. I haven't yet had time to check into what documentation you mentioned though yet.

For what it's worth, I'm having the same problem. Other methods of payment work, the PayPal payment is accepted but no other order information. I then have to contact the customer and ask him to resend the order...making me look bad.

Okay, here is the problem I had and how I solved it.

I have one business where the tax info and shipping info is on paypal and there are no issues accepting paypal zen.

I have another business where I cannot accept paypal with zen. I tried erasing the tax and shipping info on this second PayPal account and bingo... everything works.

Truth is, I got the heads up from the zen wiki info someone posted.

Gotta wipe out the tax and shipping settings in PayPal. Why it's good for one biz and not the other is anybody's guess.
