Default Define Page Editor NOT working

Version 1.3.9b (NOT upgrading yet because I don't have the money to pay someone and I broke my store upgrading it from 1.38a to the 1.3.9 series)

Yes, I have mods installed but since I found a post just like mine with a solution I'm not listing them.

The solution ONLY works if YOU aren't your own hosting provider.
Here's what ended up solving the problem for me (so maybe it can for you too).

I contacted my hosting service and explained to them the error that I was getting. Before the end of the day I got the following response:

"It appears that your domain may be hitting some of our recently updated mod_security rules. We can whitelist these, but first we will need to be able to reproduce the error."

And that ended up taking care of it. So if you're reading this thread, you may want to check with your hosting service first. (Mine is awesome, by the way. I wish I'd thought to contact them in the first place - could have saved myself some grief).
I'm on a dedicated server. So I am my own host. That solution will not work as posted. I need to know the exact steps.

Btw, I am an adult, I did NOT need the idiotic reminder flashing to rename my admin folder. The person who upgraded it renamed it for me before I had a chance to stop him but in our case it was entirely unnecessary.

Renaming the folder has caused NO end of grief apparently as evidence in these threads.

    Liz

Not really something we can help with.

Give us half a chance (and a lot more detail) and we should be able to help you solve this.

    Is that right?

The exact steps will only be of any use if your problem is caused by the same thing that the solution was designed for, namely, updated mod_security rules.

Have you updated YOUR mod_security rules lately? Do you even have mod_security installed on your host?

I don't see how this is relevant to your problem, other than perhaps you could be considerably less experienced than the typical teenager.

Why would you want to stop him? Renaming this folder is highly recommended for a very good reason. Sorry, but consider this as another reminder.

I've had to restore many hacked sites as a result of this "entirely unnecessary" action not being performed along with the other security patches. I assume you have good reason to think it is unnecessary on your site.

Most people have managed this simple task without any problems or grief at all.

Anyway, now that you've told us that you are an adult and that you can make your own decisions about the security of your site, and that no matter what you do you consistently manage to break things, perhaps you could also give us some information about the problem that has prompted this post.

I assume from the subject line that it has something to do with your define pages editor not working.

Based on what you have/haven't told us so far I am far from convinced that your problem has the same cause a indicated from the quote you provided.

You will be doing yourself a much better service if you tell us the important facts of your case, rather than snide remarks that you are an adult and don't appreciate snide remarks and that one of us should be able to give you a precise answer, and nothing more.

Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

    Cheers
    Rod

Actually, I did find the solution after reading thread after thread (I hate vb's search and yes, I know a LOT about vb). I found it here. Turns out it was something completely different.

As to my snide remarks. I don't need reminders to rename something, what I do on my site is my business. That should not have been implemented. It was absolutely unnecessary.

    Consider this closed. Liz
