categories layout all wrong

I have a left column containing the usual information - categories, information, etc. .. I have 'Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories' turned on but when selected on a category the sub categories are displaying about 300px to the right and the whole page layout is being effected - I'm having some difficulty understanding why as I have been doing some testing in '/public_html/includes/templates/template_default/sideboxes/tpl_categories.php' but cannot effect any of it .. when not on a category page the column layout is as it should be (without the sub-categories of course).

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

Sounds like you may have a margin or padding set incorrectly, but as Steve said......without a link, we're at just as much of a loss for finding the problem as you are.

It does sound like that yes.. I would put a link but I have the website down for maintenance at the moment - I know that isn't very helpful.. a screen shot won't do it either because you have to go down the screen a little to see where the sub categories are displaying.. it looks like this though if category 1 were to be selected:

SUB_CATEGORY_1 -> SUB_SUB_CATEGORIES[/CODE

I know this isn't ideal but I'm really hoping that you can see what I mean as to everything being pushed to the right by the sub-categories.

ok I can't show you what I mean but as I say everything is pushed to the right.
